Maria Krull

Painter and Sculptress

8th March 1909 (Hamburg, Germany) –  5th March 1979 (Hamburg, Germany)

After her art studies with the renowned professors and sculptors, Michael Johannes Bossard (from 1930 to 1933) and Edwin Scharff (from 1945 to 1949) and her initial artistic pursuit, the already accomplished sculptress, Maria Krull, followed a sudden calling to paint in 1961 at the age of 52. What remains today of her work as an artist is a large collection of paintings. An art critic once described her style as “Spiritual Expressionism”. However, an evolution and different periods are clearly marked and visible.

At the beginning of the 60’s her art galleryCasal Dell’Arte”, Ladispoli, Rome, became a meeting venue for both local and international artists and exhibitions. For this initiative, she was awarded the « Diplôme de GRAND PRIX au Mérite », Centre Européen de Diffusion de la Culture Brussels (Italian Department), in June 1969.

Throughout the 1960’s, Maria Krull participated in many exhibitions, mainly in Rome, and had two solo exhibitions.

Today there are 150 paintings and only a few sculptures.
